Hi all,
This is a reminder for the cluster seminar later today at 13.00 in room CEO:0.18. Again, this time we have a guest, Turgay Caglar from Texas A&M University, who will talk about
X-ray and Radio Signatures of an Off-Axis Binary Cluster Merger: PSZ2 G279.79+39.09
As always, the talk will also be on Zoom, with the link:
https://universiteitleiden.zoom.us/j/2134887101?pwd=4Xp5fL92aKbJ31umx3sLV04…
We hope to see you there, online or in person.
Kind regards,
Kostas & Joshiwa
Abstract: In this talk, we present an X-ray and radio analysis of the merging galaxy cluster system PSZ2 G279.79+39.09 (z=0.29) using XMM–Newton, Chandra, GMRT, and MeerKAT observations. The system is clearly bimodal, with the two subclusters separated by ~1.35 Mpc and showing comparable gas temperatures of ~5.4 keV. Both clusters exhibit disturbed morphologies and ram-pressure–stripped gas, including a prominent X-ray tail from the western subcluster. Thermodynamic maps reveal a hot, high-pressure bridge between the subcluster cores, and our radio data show diffuse emission that closely follows this X-ray bridge. From the temperature jump, we infer a weak merger shock with M~1.4 and a shock speed of ~1600 km/s. The combined X-ray and radio evidence indicates an off-axis merger observed near core passage, with a slightly higher likelihood of being in a pre-pericenter phase.
