Dear all,
The first STRW/SRON Galaxy Cluster Seminar for 2026 is scheduled for
next Thursday, January 15th, at 13:00. This time we have a remote
speaker, Jakob Dietl, from the University of Bonn and the group of
Thomas Reiprich. The title of the talk is:
Individual Cosmic Filaments with eROSITA and Machine Learning Detection
of Galaxy Clusters
while the abstract can be found at the end of this email. The seminar
will take place through zoom (the link will be shared on the previous
day), but attendees will also gather in CE.0.18 if they like, like an
in-person cluster seminar, to attend the talk together.
We hope to see you all there.
Cheers,
Kostas & Joshiwa
Abstract:
The SRG/eROSITA mission is providing an unprecedented X-ray view of
large-scale structure in the Universe, allowing detailed studies of
galaxy cluster outskirts, cluster-cluster bridges and X-ray-emitting
filaments.
In the first part of the talk, I will show examples of eROSITA-detected
large-scale structures, focusing mainly on analyses of the A3667/51
system and the outskirts of A3266. Recent comparisons with predictions
from the SLOW simulation identified two additional systems with
potential large-scale filaments.
In the second part, I will present current machine-learning efforts for
galaxy cluster detection in eROSITA data, highlighting the importance of
large multi-wavelength surveys for AI research in astrophysics.
