We are happy to welcome Ir. Bas Ketelaar from the Quantum Nanoscience group at TU Delft, who will give a talk titled “Photonic Computing for Artificial Intelligence”. The abstract is included below. As traditional digital electronic computing approaches its limits, while the demand for computation continues to grow, there is an increasing interest in novel computing paradigms. One promising solution comes from using light to do computation. Photonics offers potential benefits in terms of bandwidth, latency, and energy consumption. One field where such benefits are relevant is that of AI. I will give a broad overview of how light can be used to do computation, focusing on how to implement neural networks with integrated photonics. Sebastiaan --------------------------------------------------- Dear all, We are pleased to announce the 3rd edition of the Observing with Adaptive Optics OAO26 international school, which will be held at the Asiago Astrophysical Observatory in Italy from 25th to 30th October 2026. This year the school follows the Papyrus AO testbed as it says farewell to OHP and travels to Asiago Cima Ekar, becoming EKARUS. As in the previous editions, the school is aimed at young scientists, engineers, and technicians who wish to deepen their knowledge of adaptive optics technologies applied to astronomy. The school program includes: * Lectures by renowned international experts in the field * Hands-on and tutoring sessions * Observations with the Copernico telescope equipped with the new EKARUS adaptive optics bench - we asked for clear Italian skies this year :-) During the school, students will carry out an adaptive optics observation, taking care of all the phases, from the preparation of the scientific case to the telescope observation, to the data reduction and the presentation of the results. Participation and accommodation at the observatory are free of charge, except for travel expenses. Registration will open on April 27, 2026. Hi all, This week we have Arend Moerman from the TUDelft as our guest. Below are the details of the presentation. If there is time left we can still do a bit of good old fashioned slide roulette so you can still send your slides. I hope to see you all there. Title: Observing the submm sky with DESHIMA 2.0 at ASTE Abstract: In this talk, I will present the commissioning and science verification campaign of DESHIMA 2.0 at ASTE. First, the concept of the integrated superconducting spectrometer - the instrument architecture of DESHIMA 2.0 - is introduced. Then, I will discuss the commissioning at the ASTE telescope in Chile and the observation campaign that ensued, including the ins-and-outs of commissioning novel instrumentation. Finally, the current state of analysis of the data will be presented and the future outlook and efforts will be discussed.
